Seeking solitude

A departure from the daily tumble had messed with my thoughts for a long time. The aperture of open vistas and snow covered landscapes had been a memory of yet another year gone past.

The crunching of snow beneath my skis was soon overtaken by the blaring whisper of the tundra wind.

Into the wilderness, I set my sights, skis on and sledge behind. A journey of wonder, a venture of the unknown.

Snack time. No tracks towards Tuiskukuru, so why not continute to Kotaköngäs?

Six days of solitude in the deafening silence of a snow covered land. Spring is the time of awakening.

Lying beneath the stars scattered, feeling a sense of peace and gratitude.

There is something magical about the winter hush. Everything still so calm, but soon to burst into the frantic summer.

Then the cabin too, a welcome retreat, a place to rest. Countless hours to the crackling wood. Time to relax, to renew.

Rautulampi new wilderness hut

The old hut burnt down in 2019 and the current installation is something architecturally completely different. Views from the inside. Spacious and full of light. Normal basic cooking facilities, stove and space to sleep 8 persons. I suspect, that this might be a bit hot in the summer with the big windows. Last photo from the separate day hut with nice views to the fjells.

Clear skies and halos.

Without skis instantly wading at least deep thigh, felt like a burden but also a natural high.

Eventually the silence and solitude had to be left behind, waiting to be visited in memories and times to come.
